On Tuesday, July 14, at 9 p.m., VH1 will premiere Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants, the first full-length original SpongeBob SquarePants documentary from acclaimed producers Creadon O’Malley. Commissioned by Nickelodeon to commemorate the anniversary of the series’ first episode, the documentary chronicles the beloved character’s journey to international pop culture icon status and showcases the series’ impact on everyone from President Barack Obama, kids across the globe and San Quentin inmates who readily sing its catchy theme song. The one-hour documentary, features an opening song from Avril Lavigne and commentary from creator Steve Hillenburg, cast and crew members, industry experts, fanatics and celebrities like LeBron James, Ricky Gervais and Rosario Dawson.
Adam Sandler, Cher, Jon Favreau, Sylvester Stallone and Judd Apatow will provide voices for the animals in MGM’s live-action comedy “The Zookeeper,” starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.Sandler, whose Happy Madison shingle is also a producer on the pic, will voice a capuchin monkey. Cher’s voicing a giraffe, Favreau a bear, Stallone a lion and Apatow an elephant.
Jim Breuer, Faizon Love and Bas Rutten round out the voice cast.
James is also producing with Todd Garner (”The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) and Happy Madison. Jeff Sussman and Jennifer Eatz exec produce.
Pic centers on zoo animals trying to teach the keeper their methods of dating and mating to help him win back the woman of his dreams. Frank Coraci is directing from a screenplay by Jay Scherick and David Ronn, James, Rock Reuben and Nick Bakay.
Shooting’s set to start in late summer for an Oct. 8, 2010, release. MGM won a bidding war last year for the “Zookeeper” spec, paying $2 million against $3 million, while the studio was ramping up a slate of homegrown projects.

Phase 4 Films, the new distributor spun off from Peace Arch Entertainment Group, has revealed the details for the Blu-ray release of ‘Explicit Ills‘, which is due out on July 14. Video will be presented in 1080p 2.35:1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby Digital track. As with previous titles by Peace Arch, no lossless audio track seems to be included.
